Things in the environment will feel more lifelike and real and all-out war will never look the same. We've seen NVIDIA's move to provide RTX effects on older, non-RT capable hardware today being met with what the company was certainly expecting: a cry of dismay from users that now get to see exactly what their non-Turing NVIDIA hardware is capable of. “With this new Nvidia RTX platform, more detail than ever before can now be seen on the battlefield, from recognizing the flash of a muzzle being reflected off a car to spotting the detailed reflection of a devastated facade in a splash of water on the ground. “It’s always been important to us as a studio to stay one step ahead as we look to increase the graphical fidelity in games,” said Christian Holmquist, technical director at DICE, in an official statement. In a brief real-time ray tracing showcase video, developer DICE illustrates how Nvidia’s RTX 20-series graphics cards will make fire and explosions more realistic than ever, as they cast their light on water, metal and other surfaces. In the case of Battlefield 5, that means more accurate real-time reflections on surfaces like the hood of a car, a river or a human eye. Two of this year’s big games, Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 5 and Square Enix’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will feature support for Nvidia’s new RTX line of GPUs and will include real-time ray tracing technology on Windows PC.
